A chemical peel involves the direct topical application of a dilute liquid acid to areas of fine line facial wrinkles. The skin directly above and below the upper and lower lips or the vertical "marionette" lines are most frequently treated to reduce the deep creases. A tiny injection of local anesthetic is often given prior to application of the acidic agent. The treated areas form a temporary scab which lasts about seven to ten days. Once the scab separates from the treated areas, the wrinkles are usually vastly improved. |
