What it is: A brow lift, or forehead lift, is performed to elevate drooping eyebrows and to eliminate transverse and vertical forehead frown lines and wrinkles. Typically this results in a more youthful, alert, rested and cheerful appearance. Brow lift is often combined with simultaneous upper and lower eyelid surgery or as a component part of a complete face lift.
Procedure: An incision is made in the hair bearing scalp so that the post-operative scar is not visible. The brow is then elevated to its correct anatomic position, correcting the drooping and sagging deformity. Underlying forehead muscles can be treated so that wrinkles and frown lines are minimized.
Where it is Done: A brow lift is usually performed on an out-patient basis in a day surgery center.
What to Expect: The scars resulting from a brow lift or forehead lift are placed in the hair bearing scalp so they are not visible post-operatively. No post-operative drains are required.
Anesthesia and Medication: A brow lift does not necessarily require general anesthesia where the patient is put to sleep. This procedure can often be performed with intravenous sedation and local anesthetic.
